APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS
An interview with the trustees is required for all applicants. Please submit all documentation listed below upon completion and bring hard copies of each to the meeting. Returning students, please complete and submit a re-application form.
- 1-2 page personal statement as follows:
- 3/4 page about your personal background and history, including how you grew up, your family situation and relationships
- 1/2 page on your academic history to date
- 1/2 page on your academic goals for the future
- Projected budget and loan information for the upcoming academic year:
- projected expenses including tuition and fees, living expenses, transportation, health, personal, etc.
- all expected sources of income and/or funds from work, financial aid, family, etc.
- deficit (expenses minus sources) for the year
- summary of all outstanding student loans to date, organized by year and source
- Completed Bernard Axelrad Scholarship Fund application form.
- Most recent income tax return – if you are a dependent, submit your parent’s
- SAR (student aid report) from FAFSA
- Transcripts (unofficial acceptable) from your high school or college
- Proof of intent to be enrolled as a full-time student for upcoming academic year
ELIGIBILITY
If you meet the eligibility requirements, please contact us before continuing the application process.
- The applicant will be transferring or has recently transferred, to a four year college or university following study of at least one year at a community college (proof of enrollment and transcripts required);
- The applicant has maintained the equivalent of a 3.0 or B grade point average in community college and/or university;
- The applicant has a significant need for financial assistance to be able to attend college or university (proof of financial need required);
- The applicant's parents are of Jewish ancestry (defined as either parent of Jewish faith or having converted to the Jewish faith) and the applicant has a demonstrated interest in their Jewish identity, roots and traditions; and
- The applicant will make a reasonable effort to be gainfully employed on a part-time basis consistent with the time requirements of their education and their capabilities.
